Slow Money Texas
...promoting investment in environmentally, socially and culturally sustainable food systems
Congratulations to Austin-based Microbial Earth and partner Partrick Van Haren for receiving a $250,000 matching grant from the USDA for developing a process that converts grass-based byproducts into rich, high-value humified compost and a compost tea extract called Buffalo Tea. "Our soil is critical to producing our food, fiber, feed, fuel, fertilizer, fresh water and fresh air," says Patrick, an early supporter of the Slow Money movement. "This type of slow money is the equivalent of venture financing in agriculture."

Congratulations to Greenling, Coyote Creek Organic Feed Mill and Rhythm Superfoods -- These Central Texas food businesses were chosen to participate in the national Entrepreneur Showcase, part of the Slow Money National Gathering held June 9-11 in Vermont. Their selection validates the work being done on the ground. Let's keep the momentum going.

Farm & Food Leadership Conf. Sept. 13-14 - Register Now
July 31, 2010 1:36 pm by slowmoneyaustin

We are fast upon the August lull, but an important event to get on the calendar now is the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance's Farm & Food Leadership Conference slated for Sept. 13 & 14 in downtown Austin.

The event hits on many hot-button issues facing sustainable agriculture:  food safety, labeling, policy issues, water use, accessibility, outreach and more. We'll be on hand, reviewing the overall investment picture for sustainable enterprises, and discussing what it will take for Texas to become a Slow Money leader. Jim Hightower keynotes.  Don't miss it.

The Show Goes On... And We Are Thankful
June 9, 2010 11:27 pm by slowmoneyaustin

With a heavy heart, we recall how special our first Slow Money Austin Investor Dinner was, no small thanks to Barr Mansion's beautiful setting and unbelievable support. Our sympathy and best wishes go out to Barr Mansion, Melanie and her crew for incurring such a blow to so majestic a building -- and cheers for your spirit and perseveranceYou are special folk. Know a group in VT has you in its thoughts.

We've landed.

The gang -- and there are enough of us from Slow Money Austin to make that no exaggeration -- has made it to the National Gathering in Vermont and is ready to experience Slow Money at warp speed. (Knock it out of the park, Woody!)

On the way, we sat near two budding entrepreneurs... can't reveal their business, but their energy was contagious. They'd heard about Slow Money and came to see it in action. Wonder how many more entrepreneurs will be in the house (err, barn) this time around?
